The visit of Minister of Public Security and Chairman of the National Narcotics Control Commission, People's Republic of China, 19-23 July 2001.

The group of H.E. Mr. Jia Chunwang, Minister of Public Security and Chairman of the National Narcotics Control Commission, People's Republic of China had a study visit on narcotic control operations in Thailand during 19-23 July 2001. On July 20, 2001, H.E. Mr. Jia Chunwang had a courtesy call on H.E. Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin Shinawatra, Prime Minister, H.E. Gen. Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and had an official meeting with H.E. Gen. Thammarak Isarangura, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office at the Government House. The group, also, had a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the afternoon and had discussed with H.E. Pol. Capt. Purachai Piumsombun, Minister of Interior, in the evening on the same day. This study visit was the furthering action upon the state visit of the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Zhu Rongji, in Thailand on May 19, 2001. As promoting mutual narcotic control cooperation between Thailand and China, the group focused on information collecting on drug problem characteristics in the local area as well as drug control operations of Thailand. On this occasion, the group has visited and observed the work on drug demand reduction and narcotic law enforcement operation in Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai.
